Project Management:

3D Project Management™

Discovery, Disclosure, and Design, the first 3 steps to a successful product development.  As a company grows it becomes more difficult make decisions on which ideas and projects need to more forward, market needs and technical solutions become blurred.

The Controltools team has years of RF and Embedded Solutions experience  We can help you make the critical technology decisions on processors, OS, and development systems.  We have experience with all of the embedded Real time Operating Systems and Integrated Development Environments. The team at ControlTools™ can facilitate a dialog between team members to expose the core issues of market needs and technical solutions.

This dialog follows these three basic steps:

Discovery of the the need

Disclosure of the issues

Design of the product, project schedule and budget

Discovery

Collecting and documenting the why and the what, is the foundation of a successful product.  It can also be the most frustrating and time consuming part of the project.  This phase is often rushed and investments are made on "gut feel" not sound market information or technical evaluation.  The team at ControlTools™ is experienced at bridging the gap and sometimes "Language Barrier" between sales, marketing and engineering.  Acting as a time management tool the ControlTools™ team streamlines this phase and acts as a third party sounding board to get the key issues to the surface and written down.  This speeds up development and insures features and benefits are justified.  The goal in this step; is to use this dialog to produce a clean usable set of development documents.  Usable means organized and readable documents, not documents meant to "bore" the other side into submission.

The three basic documents required for an informed, on-time, and on-budget project are;

Marketing Requirement Document (MRD) - The why and the what the market needs...

Technical Requirements Document (TRD) -  The how we can satisfy the market ...

Product Investment Profile (PIP) - The "Why" and "How" as a company we profit ...

Working the process to develop these documents will  help your "Teams" become "A Team", plus provide management with the information required to make sound investments based on realistic schedules and budgets.

Disclosure

Disclosure is the process of collecting the supporting documentation for the MRD and TRD.  This can be actual component pricing, competitor information, and/or older design or source code evaluation.  These elements are often optimistically "guesstimated" and are the leading cause cause of schedule delays and/or budget overruns.

Design

The phase brings it all together into a design overview and development schedule and is the foundation of a successful design.
